    Next steps to end child labour in global supply chains

    A major conference takes place this week in the Netherlands that aims to set out the next steps in ending child labour in global supply chains. ILO Director-General Guy Ryder took part in a panel discussion at the conference, which has been organized by the Dutch government in collaboration with the ILO, the Global March Against Child Labour and the Netherlands Enterprise Agency.

    As the economy of Côte d’Ivoire slowly recovers after a long period of crisis, building a brighter future for the young generation is crucial. The increasing number of multinational enterprises (MNEs) operating in the country are a promising yet largely untapped source for local job creation. Until now, jobs have been mainly filled by foreigners due to limited skilled labour available locally. The ILO provides assistance to the government, employers and workers organizations to address the situation by engaging MNEs on this national priority.
