The ILO holds meeting on care provision through cooperatives with global and country level updates

On Wednesday, August 23rd, The ILO’s Cooperatives, Social and Solidarity Economy Unit (COOP/SSE) and the Gender, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (GEDI) Branch came together with 27 ILO colleagues from headquarters and the field to discuss progress on the initiative Cooperative Care Provision as a Gender-Transformative Decent Work Solution, initially launched in March 2023.

"Spotlight Interviews with Cooperators" is a series of interviews with cooperative leaders from around the world with whom ILO officials have crossed paths during the course of their work with cooperatives. In this issue ILO interviewed Ms Vittoria Burton, Head of Research and Development of Consorzio Copernico in North-West Italy. Prior to joining Consorzio Copernico in 2015, she worked at one of the six cooperatives constituting Consorzio Copernico as Chair and Educational Coordinator from 1997 to 2015.

Today, care is provided in myriad forms, from childcare and eldercare to care for persons living with a disability or illness. What is more, the need for care is growing worldwide, driven by demographic shifts including the growing ageing population and the rising number of persons living with illnesses.
