    Long term care for the elderly in Albania

    Albania faces a growing need of long-term care for its elderly population

    According to a recent ILO study, at least 91 thousand elderly in Albania are in need of long-term care. Less than 2 percent of them are currently receiving formal long-term care services and most of them rely on family members, in particular unpaid female carers. With a rapidly ageing population and continual out-migration, Albania is facing an imminent challenge to ensure access to affordable and quality care services for all elderly in need.

    "Spotlight Interviews with Cooperators" is a series of interviews with cooperative leaders from around the world with whom ILO officials have crossed paths during the course of their work with cooperatives. In this issue ILO interviewed Ms Vittoria Burton, Head of Research and Development of Consorzio Copernico in North-West Italy. Prior to joining Consorzio Copernico in 2015, she worked at one of the six cooperatives constituting Consorzio Copernico as Chair and Educational Coordinator from 1997 to 2015.
