The ILO’s Impact Insurance Facility has been collaborating with the Mexican Association of Insurance Institutions to build inclusive insurance markets for excluded persons and for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the country. This brief identifies strategies to overcome barriers to insurance for MSMEs, based on the experiences of seven companies in Latin America.

Case Brief #1: Aseguradora Rural

In 2012, Aseguradora Rural registered the first approved health microinsurance product in Guatemala, sold through its partner, a large, trusted bank network. As highighted in Case Brief #1, it has been able to leverage clients´ trust in the bank to grow quickly. Now it is tackling the challenge of ensuring understanding and use of the product on an equally large scale.
