    Green Jobs and Just Transition Readiness Assessment in the Energy Sector in Indonesia

    This study is part of the ILO’s support for the Government of Indonesia under the Partnership for Action on Green Economy (PAGE). It is aimed at assisting the country’s efforts in planning a just energy transition that also considers measures to mitigate negative employment impacts. The work of the ILO has always focused on advancing social justice and advocating for decent work. In this regard, we acknowledge the importance of collaborative efforts on reducing environmental impacts and addressing climate change while creating employment opportunities and ensuring socially just outcomes.

    A just energy transition in Southeast Asia: The impact of coal phase-out on jobs

    01 May 2022

    Coal is the most carbon-intensive fossil fuel, and its rapid phasing out is essential to limit global warming to 1.5°C. However, the status of coal power plants as of 2021 shows that the world is far from reaching this objective unless drastic steps are taken immediately. The ILO's Report on "A just transition in Southeast Asia: The impact of coal phase-out on jobs" lays out the need to mitigate the negative socio-economic effects of coal phase out and the necessity for just transition policies to be fostered by using evidence at local levels.
