    Working out of disaster - from response to recovery and preparedness

    From 2015 until now, the ILO has supported post-disaster action in three Pacific island countries through conducting Post-Disaster Needs Assessments (PDNAs) of the Employment and Livelihoods Sector, implementing employment-rich recovery projects and through helping micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to establish disaster-resilient business practices. The demand for preparedness and recovery tools for the MSME’s is high, considering the effect of the disaster to income and employment.

Japan has ratified 49 Conventions, including 6 Fundamental, 3 Governance and 40 Technical Conventions. Japan holds one of the ten permanent government seats on the ILO Governing Body as a State of Chief Industrial Importance.

    Solomon Islands: Cash for work helps natural disaster recovery

    Climate change directly affects lives around the world, especially as extreme weather events become more common. In the Solomon Islands, villages were washed away when heavy torrential rains, caused two rivers to burst their banks. The ILO's Cash for Work program helps the government, and workers from those communities restore their villages and livelihoods.

    ILO/Japan Fund for Building Social Safety Nets in Asia and the Pacific (SSN Fund)

    The SSN Fund aims to broaden the use of social safety nets through a wide range of projects to extend existing social security systems, promote occupational safety and health (OSH), develop human resources, strengthen labour inspection, eliminate forced labour and foster entrepreneurship. The Fund also responds to natural disasters by implementing crisis response activities in the affected areas to support disaster recovery.
