    Morocco strengthens its capacity on green jobs indicators

    27 March 2023

    Officials from the High Commission for Planning (HCP) followed a workshop training on 20-22 March in Rabat, led by ILO, about green jobs statistics as part of an action plan for the measurement of green jobs in Morocco. The objective was to reinforce national capacities in statistics in the fields of environment and green jobs as the Government is investing in a greener and more inclusive growth path.

    In the context of the ILO’s Green Week and this year’s Earth Day, the ILO and its tripartite constituents will host a regional launch of the Climate Action for Jobs Initiative. The event will also launch the social dimension of the ecological transition project on advancing climate action, a just transition, and decent work in Africa.

    Waste pickers’ cooperatives and social and solidarity economy organizations

    Waste pickers make significant contributions to public health, sanitation, and the environment by promoting resource circulation and reducing the amount of landfill. However, they are often not legally recognized as workers and suffer from poor working conditions and lack of social protection. This brief highlights the role of waste pickers' cooperatives and other social and solidarity economy organizations (SSEOs) in integrating and formalizing the work of waste pickers in the recycling value chain and improving their working conditions.

    The event is organised by DWT/CO–Cairo: ILO DWT for North Africa and Country Office for Egypt and Eritrea through ILO Project “Decent Jobs for Egypt’s Young People” (DJEP) financed by Global Affairs Canada (GAC) in collaboration with: International Training Centre of the ILO, Arab Academy for Science and Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT), ILO Green Jobs Programme, ILO Offices and DWT in the Arab States and North Africa.
