Resources on Mining (coal and other mining) sector

  1. Women and the Mine of the Future Global Report

    01 April 2023

Rapid technological advances, increasing calls for sustainability, and the low-carbon energy transition are transforming large-scale mining across the globe. But the lack of high-quality, gender-disaggregated employment data leaves decision-makers ill-equipped to effectively support a more equal and inclusive mining workforce. To help remedy the situation, the Women and the Mine of the Future Global Report looks at a sample of 12 countries to uncover the gender-disaggregated employment profile for large-scale mining, focusing on women and their occupations in the sector.

  2. A just energy transition in Southeast Asia: The impact of coal phase-out on jobs

    01 May 2022

Coal is the most carbon-intensive fossil fuel, and its rapid phasing out is essential to limit global warming to 1.5°C. However, the status of coal power plants as of 2021 shows that the world is far from reaching this objective unless drastic steps are taken immediately. The ILO's Report on "A just transition in Southeast Asia: The impact of coal phase-out on jobs" lays out the need to mitigate the negative socio-economic effects of coal phase out and the necessity for just transition policies to be fostered by using evidence at local levels.
