    Everyone working aboard a cruise ship, from machine operators to entertainers to hotel staff,is considered a “seafarer” just like the crew of a merchant ship. And as such, their rights are protected under the ILO’s Maritime Labour Convention, 2006 that comes into effect as international law on the 20th of August 2013.

    The ILO's landmark Maritime Labour Convention, 2006 – the MLC, 2006 - the “seafarers' bill of rights”- goes into effect worldwide on August 20, 2013, providing comprehensive protection at work for the world's 1.5 million seafarers while promoting conditions of fair competition for shipowners.
