DONG NAI, Viet Nam (ILO news) - On 14 December 2023, a delegation of representatives from the International Labour Organization (ILO) Country Office in Viet Nam, the United States Department of Labor (USDOL) and the Department of Industrial Relations and Wages under the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA) successfully concluded a mission to Viet Nam’s southern province of Dong Nai, marking a step in strengthening the labour dispute resolution system in collaboration with the Dong Nai Labour Arbitration Council.

The delegation engaged in constructive discussions with the Dong Nai Labour Arbitration Council representatives and the Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs. The mission aimed to deepen collaboration and foster partnerships that contribute to effective dispute resolution mechanisms.

The stakeholders have acknowledged the achievements and importance of the Labour Arbitration Council in effectively contributing to promoting harmonious industrial relations in Viet Nam.

Significantly, the visit has provided a platform, where stakeholders discussed three key thematic issues: (1) development of human resources, including training and skills development; (2) enhanced communication about the services provided by the Labour Arbitration Council; and (3) better access to the Labour Arbitration council.

The visit resulted in the exploration of joint initiatives to enhance the role of the Labour Arbitration Council, solidifying the commitment of the ILO to promoting social justice and decent work in Viet Nam.

Following the successful mission to Dong Nai, on 15 December, the ILO and USDOL delegation held discussions with the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs in Hanoi on collaborative efforts related to the improvements to the labour dispute resolution system, and the automation of the labour inspection process.

The discussions aimed to align strategies, share expertise, and identify key areas of cooperation that will contribute to the promotion of decent working conditions.

This visit is part of activities being carried by the ILO in Viet Nam, with the support of the US Department of Labor-funded project New Industrial Relation Framework (NIRF).
