Promotion of sound industrial relations in Viet Nam

Conference in coastal city of Hai Phong assesses progress in on-going projects to promote sound and harmonious industrial relations in Viet Nam.

HAI PHONG, Viet Nam (ILO News) - On 12 January 2024, the Ministry of Labour, Invalid and Social Affairs (MOLISA) organized the “Conference on evaluating the development and implementation of Industrial Relations Development Projects, 2021 – 2025”. The event is part of the work plan and collaboration between the Ministry and the International Labour Organization (ILO – particularly the NIRS/Canada project: Support to the state management agencies of labour’s role as mediator and promoter of collective bargaining and social dialogue.

The conference was chaired by MOLISA Deputy Minister Le Van Thanh and saw the participation of ILO Viet Nam Country Director, Ingrid Christensen as well as representatives from the Viet Nam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL), the Viet Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCC), and relevant agencies and provinces, including the 12 provinces/cities which have developed and implemented Industrial Relations Development Projects (IR projects).

The ILO has had ongoing collaboration with the government, workers’ and employers’ organizations in Viet Nam for the development and implementation of IR projects during the periods: 2015 to 2020 and 2021 to 2025. At the conference, ILO Viet Nam Country Director, Ingrid Christensen highlighted the efforts made and the results achieved by Viet Nam up to date, in particular the revised Labour Code 2019, detailed legal documents and the promotion of regulations related to industrial relations. The achievements are very encouraging, shared the Country Director and this conference presents the opportunity to learn about the progresses and initatives made as well as areas for further improvement. The ILO continues to stand by Viet Nam in the development of harmonious, stable and progressive industrial relations.
